Emogene Woodward Schwartz, 90, of Flat Rock, passed away Wednesday, August 4, 2021.
Born in Mississippi, May of 1931, she was a daughter of the late Floyd and Ethel Woodward.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Schwartz.
She and Joseph married on June 6, 1954 and had remained together for sixty-four and a half years until he passed away in 2019. They loved to travel and throughout their lives her and Joe were able to travel all over the world to places like the Caribbean, Europe, Japan and even the Holy Land.
She loved to tell stories of her life growing up on the farm in Mississippi and always remembered her time growing up with much family and many cousins. She taught Jr High English for 32 years in Michigan and then retired to NC where she served as a substitute teacher for another 20 years or so. She loved to read and in later years loved her routine. She had a great love Jesus and her church and church family.
The family shares fond memories of her always wearing suits (especially for church and for other special occasions) and pairing them with Pearl’s, brooches, and pantyhose and memories of seeing her sitting in her chair and reading her Bible and talking with God.
Emogene is survived by her daughter, Sonya Renee Clayton and her husband Christopher and her two grandchildren, Lauren and Brandon.
A memorial service will be on Friday, August 6, 2021 at 11:00 AM in the chapel of First Baptist Church, Hendersonville, NC. The Reverend Wally Shamburger will officiate.
