David Lee Burlett, 73, of Hendersonville went peacefully to be with his Lord and savior, Jesus Christ, Wednesday, August 6th at Pardee Hospital.

He was born in Swickley, Pennsylvania to the late Leo C. and Mildred S. Burlett. He was preceded in death by his brother Doug Burlett, father-in-law Ellis Molton and brother-in-law Donny Molton.

David grew up in Tampa, Florida and attended Most Holy Redeemer Catholic School and Chamberlain High School before moving to Hendersonville in 1967. He was a 1969 graduate of Hendersonville High School. He attended Western Carolina University.

He owned and operated Burlett Painting for 38 successful years before turning it over to his son.

David was from a baseball family and played baseball from an early age in Tampa and continued to play for Hendersonville High. He attended summer training camps for Cincinnati Reds and was drafted by the New York Mets.

He started coaching Little League when his son Richie was four and continued to coach for over 35 years. During the last few years of his coaching career he had the privilege of coaching his grandson, Aidan. He touched many lives coaching baseball and loved teaching young people the game that he loved and played so much all of his life. Several of his players went on to play college and pro baseball. David’s warm personality and relaxed demeanor helped keep baseball fun for all the players.

Left to celebrate his life and cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 39 years Marcie Molton Burlett, his son Richie Burlett (Christie) and grandchildren Aidan and Molly Burlett who were his pride and joy. He is also survived by his brothers Leo Burlett (Mary), John Burlett (Jennifer), and sister Cindy Burlett Ricker, mother-in-law Marceline Molton,  brother-in-laws Randy Molton (Lee), Rusty Molton (Dory), Wendell Molton and Howard Molton (Barbara) as well as over 50 nieces and nephews, many cousins and all those with whom he shared his life.

A special thank you to Dr. James Caserio for the many years of special care he always gave David. David loved his “doc” and cherished his friendship.

David loved his family and friends with all his heart.

A celebration of David’s life will be held at Hendersonville First United Methodist Church on Sunday, August 17, 2025 at 3:00 pm.
