Ivory Sue Gilliam, 91, of Flat Rock, North Carolina died Saturday, August 10, 2024 at her home.
She was a native of Henderson County, but lived 17 years in Indiana before returning to Henderson County in 1971.
She was the wife of Edward Mack Gilliam who died in 1995 and was also preceded in death by her parents, James Curtis McCraw and Mary Nola Geneva Hyder McCraw; two grandsons, Jon David Gilliam and Jared Hall Staton; and two sons-in-law, Gary Berton Jones; Boyce Ray Jones and siblings, James Pierce McCraw, CareLean Collins, Dicy Ruth, Mary Jane Hill, Noel Cortez McCraw and Austin Kelly McCraw.
Survivors include four daughters, Vera Hendricks (Gary) of Hendersonville, Sarah Jones (Jim) of Hendersonville, Nola Staton (Stanley) and Toni Lively (Marvin) of Flat Rock; two sons, Austin Gilliam (Janice) of Blountville, Tennessee and Ray Gilliam (Vanessa) of Hendersonville; a sister-in-law, Patricia Bachman McCraw of Hendersonville; nineteen grandchildren, twenty five great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.
Ivory loved the Lord and read her bible daily. She was a fine example to us all. Ivory was a wonderful mother to her family and also loved the neighborhood children who congregated at her home in Indiana. Her interests included sewing, flowers, gardening, canning, and freezing. She loved her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed.
The family will receive friends 1:00 PM Wednesday, August 14th at Upward Bible Baptist Church with a service following at 2:00 PM with Rev. Glenn Hyder officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
