Lawrence Frank Hill, 100, of Hendersonville, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 10, 2026, at the home of his son in Anderson, South Carolina.
A native of Henderson County, Lawrence was the son of the late Columbus Frank and Lillie Lee Osteen Hill. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Margaret Ward Hill, in 2009. Lawrence and Margaret shared 59 years of marriage, creating a lifetime filled with love, family, faith, and cherished memories. He was also preceded in death by three sisters and four brothers.
Lawrence was a faithful and hardworking man who lived a remarkable 100 years. He proudly served his country as a United States Army veteran and retired from Duke Power after 38 years of dedicated service. His faith was a very important part of his life. He was a longtime member of Refuge Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and enjoyed singing in the choir.
Music was one of Lawrence’s greatest joys. He sang bass in several quartets throughout Henderson County, sharing his voice and his love of music with others. He also had a wonderful curiosity about the world around him and loved working with his hands. He could often be found taking a gadget apart simply to see how it worked and then putting it back together. He was known affectionately as “Mr. Fix-It,” and there was always a special satisfaction in knowing that if something was broken, Lawrence would do his best to make it work again.
Those left to cherish his memory are his two sons, Michael L. Hill (JoAnn) of Anderson, SC, and Randall M. Hill of Lyman, SC; four grandchildren, Shellie Larranaga (John), Brandon W. Hill (Jessica), Jared N. Hill (Terri), and Tristen Hill (Charity); ten great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild, one sister, Lois Jean Garren of Tampa, FL; and several nieces and nephews.
For his family, saying goodbye to Lawrence after 100 years will never make the loss easier. A century of life means a century of memories—of a husband’s love, a father’s guidance, a grandfather’s presence, a brother’s companionship, and a friend’s kindness. There will be familiar moments when his family will wish they could hear his voice again, sit beside him, hear one of his songs, or simply have him there to offer his help.
Although Lawrence’s earthly journey has come to an end, the love he gave his family does not end with his passing. It remains in every memory, every story, every lesson, and in the generations of his family who carry a part of him forward. His family can take comfort in knowing that he lived a long and meaningful life, surrounded by the people and memories that mattered most.
He will be deeply missed—not only for the things he did, but simply because he was Lawrence, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend whose place in the hearts of those who loved him can never be filled.
The family invites friends and relatives to join them in a funeral service celebrating Lawrence’s life on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel in the Pines of Jackson Funeral Service, with Reverend Jeff Neelands and Reverend Dwayne Sherman officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the chapel. A private burial will follow the service.
