Aug 13, 2026

James “Jim” ONeil Marshall, 85, of Hendersonville, departed this world peacefully on Thursday, August 13, 2026, at the home of his daughter.

A lifelong native of Henderson County, Jim was the son of the late Ivory Slay and Belle Jones Marshall. He was lovingly raised by his grandparents, Cummings and Flora Marshall, and the homeplace where he grew up remained his home throughout his entire life. There was a special connection to that place, where a lifetime of memories were made and where Jim was happiest surrounded by the things and people he loved.

Jim was a hardworking man who spent many years as a truck driver, driving for Wayne Nix and Associated Petroleum Carriers, Inc. He took pride in his work and in providing for his family.

Music held a special place in Jim’s heart. He had a great passion for bluegrass and gospel music and especially enjoyed playing the guitar and stand-up bass. Through music, he found joy, fellowship, and a way to share a little of himself with those around him.

Jim was preceded in death by his loving wife, Carolyn Merrill Marshall, and his only sibling, Sue Ballard.

Those left to cherish Jim’s memory include his daughter, Robin Pridmore; and his two great-grandchildren, Katilyn Faith McCraw and Calla Hope McCraw.

Jim leaves behind a lifetime of memories that will be treasured by his family. Though he has departed this world, his memory will live on in the homeplace he loved, the music he enjoyed, and most especially in the hearts of those who loved him.

At Jim’s request, a private service will be held.

Condolences may be sent to the Marshall family at www.jacksonfuneralservice.com or C/O Jackson Funeral Service 1101 Greenville Highway, Hendersonville, NC 28792. Please include the name of the deceased on the condolence.
