Marie Reid Baxevanis, beloved mother, mother-in-love, wife, sister, friend, and so much more, passed away peacefully on August 13, 2026 at the age of 76, surrounded by her loved ones.
Born in June of 1950 in Winston Salem, Marie was a woman who lived her life with strength, determination, kindness, humor, and her faith. She was known for her fun spirit, love for live music and for the way she never met a stranger..
Marie was no stranger to hard work. As a former restaurant owner, she spent many years welcoming people into her restaurant and working alongside both her husband George and son Alex. For her, a restaurant was never simply a place to eat—it was a place where people gathered, stories were shared, and friendships were made. Her love of making people feel comfortable and welcomed became a meaningful part of the legacy she leaves behind.
Above all else, Marie was a mother and wife who loved her family deeply. She is survived by George Baxevanis (husband), Alexander Baxevanis (son), Ashleigh Baxevanis (daughter in love), Geraldine Beane (sister), Alice Goodman (sister), and Donna Herman (sister) and many other family members and friends who were blessed to know her.
She will be remembered for her fiery personality, her flair for fashion, love for music and her kindness to all. She leaves behind not only the people who loved her, but the countless lives she touched throughout her years.
She also loved her son, Alex, with a passion. He truly was the apple of her eye. It didn’t matter if she was at the doctor’s office or with the family on the food truck, she would always brag about her baby. She had a zest for life and always had a passion for fashion and design. From sewing Alex’s costumes to her own gowns, she loved to make things her own. Also, don’t forget her heels.
Her life was not always easy, but she was a fighter. She faced challenges with a strength that was uniquely her own and continued to show up for the people she loved. She fought hard, loved fiercely, and left an impression that will not easily be forgotten.
A funeral service will be at 2:00pm on Thursday August 20, 2026 at St. Anthony the Great Church at 656 Cherry St. Burial will follow the service in Shepherd Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
