Willis “Bill” Luther Holbert ,97, of Saluda, passed away on August 15th at home surrounded by family, friends, and his caregivers.

He was the son of the late Rev. Josiah and Roxie Holbert of Saluda NC. He was a proud US Army veteran of the Korean War serving in the 11th Airborne. He also played baseball and football while in the US Army. He retired from DuPont in Brevard, NC and was a retired apple and cattle farmer. He was one of the oldest, native Saluda residents. He was a faithful member of Friendship Baptist Church for most of his life and served as Music Director for over 70 years. His life story was based on love, praise, and thankfulness to God. Bill was an avid Tarheel basketball and Atlanta Braves fan.

He was preceded in death by his entire, immediate family and one son, Stanley Holbert.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 72 years, Margaret Corn Holbert; children, Phillip Holbert, Pamala Davis, Judith Bowden, and Joseph Holbert. Bill had seven grandchildren, six great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

A family visitation will be at the Chapel in The Pines of Jackson Funeral Service at 11:00 am on Saturday August 23rd. The funeral service will begin at 12:00 noon. Officiated by Rev. Thomas Hayes, and Bill’s nephew Rev. Henry Vegter, pastor of Friendship Baptist Church. Burial will be private. Bill will be interred in  Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery, Saluda, NC.

The family would like to express a special Thank You to Oliver Holbert, primary caregiver and great grandson, Comfort Keepers, and Four Seasons Hospice. Memorials may be made in his memory to Four Seasons Hospice, Flat Rock, NC.
