
Richard Leland Pace “Papaw”, 86, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, August 16, 2025.
He was born February 28, 1939, to the late John and Gladys Levi Pace. He is predeceased by his sister Judy Hodgins.
Left to celebrate his life and cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 60 years, Jewel Ownbey Pace; his only child, Chris Pace and his wife,Kim; two grandchildren, Darin Pace and his wife, Katie; and Danielle Shogren and her husband, Jesse; five great-grandchildren, Blakeleigh, Kynzie, Jacob, Kyleigh, and Gabriel; four sisters, Janice Keller, Vivian Smith, Brenda DiSano, and Joyce Lamm.
Papaw Richard lived a life marked by quiet strength and unwavering faith. He loved God with all his heart and allowed that faith to guide every day. He was faithful, dependable, and worked hard his entire life, always setting a steadfast example for his son Chris and for all who knew him. His life was defined by devotion to family, integrity in his work, and a generous spirit. He found joy in simple moments, in the love shared with his wife Jewel, and in the joy of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His legacy, perseverance, loyalty, and love will continue to inspire those who were fortunate enough to know him.
We are grateful for the time we had with Papaw Richard and for the many memories that will live on in our hearts. He will be missed deeply.
A memorial service will be held at Fruitland Baptist Church, 150 College St., Hendersonville, North Carolina, on Sunday, August 24, at 3:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Fruitland Baptist Church Building Fund.
