Betty J. Williams, 88, of Mills River, passed away Sunday evening August 20, 2023 at The Landings of Mills River where she resided.

A native of Henderson County, she was the daughter of the late Dudley G. and Essie Jackson. She was preceded in death by her first husband Clarence Laughter and second husband John Williams, and her siblings, D.G. Jackson, Herbert Jackson, Faye Gray, Louise Hill and Paul Jackson.

Betty was a retired cafeteria manager for Edneyville Elementary School, Apple Valley Middle School and North Henderson High School. She took great delight when one of her “youngins”  she fed would recognize her.  She was an avid gardener and loved to work in her flower beds and raspberry patch, she loved her family and the numerous family gatherings and her church.

She is survived by her children; Pauline L. Fisher (Vaughn), Gary F. Laughter (Lisa), grandchildren Jeremy Fisher (Melanie), Zachary Fisher (Gillian), Jennifer Botdker (Rowan), and Anna Laughter and great grandchildren Ezra Fisher and Rex Fisher. Her sisters; Lessie Coggins, Ethel Hoots, Maxine Banks, Eunice Lynch, Kay Kluge (Jimmy) and Marty Lee (Mike) and her brother; George Jackson(Dodie).

A funeral service will be held, Wednesday, August 23, 2023 at eleven o’clock in the morning at the Chapel in the Pines of Jackson Funeral Service, with Reverend Doug Carroll officiating. Burial will follow the service at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the chapel.

Betty loved flowers and they would be appreciated or donations may be made to Memory Care, Four Seasons Hospice or to Union Hill Holiness Baptist Church.

The family would like to extend sincere thanks to the people who provided Betty with great and loving care. Dr. David Johnson and Lauren Hedden at Memory Care whose guidance for the family was invaluable. The management and staff at The Landings of Mills River,  there are too many to mention by name, but it was a team effort and all the staff showed great love and compassion not only for Betty but also her extended family. The care and compassion by Four Seasons Palliative and Hospice helped immensely during the last few years.
