Clarence Junior Laughter, 70, of Mill Spring, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Friday, August 21, 2026, at Spartanburg Regional Hospital.
A native of Polk County, Clarence was the son of the late Joe Junior and Betty Lou Wilson Laughter. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Judy Elaine Laughter and Joyce Elaine Painter.
Clarence had attended Coopers Gap Baptist Church and later attended Cane Creek Baptist Church. He worked for several years at Broyhill Furniture in Rutherfordton, where he was a hardworking and dependable employee.
Clarence had a big heart and loved his family dearly. He was always trying to find a reason for everyone to get together, and one of his favorite sayings was, “We need to get together and go eat.” Those simple words said so much about Clarence and the joy he found in being surrounded by the people he loved. Family gatherings, shared meals, laughter, and time spent together were precious to him, and those memories will now be cherished by his loved ones.
Clarence was also a devoted companion to his beloved dog, Cutie-Pie, who held a special place in his heart.
Those left to cherish and remember Clarence include his nephew who Clarence raised as a son, Justin Painter, one brother, Joe Larry Laughter of Lake Lure, NC; three sisters, Patsy Arrowood (Verno) of Union Mills, NC, Betty Jo Owensby of Mill Spring, NC, and Sharon Kay Laughter of Sunny View, NC; his beloved dog, Cutie-Pie; and several aunts, nieces and nephews.
Clarence’s passing leaves a deep void in the hearts of those who loved him. He will be remembered for his kind and generous heart, his love for family, and the way he always wanted everyone together around the table. Though he will be greatly missed, his family can take comfort in knowing that he is now at home with his Lord and Savior, free from earthly cares and pain.
The family invites friends and relatives to gather together to celebrate Clarence’s life on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at two o’clock in the afternoon at Coopers Gap Baptist Church, with Reverend Ansel Pace, Reverend Tom Baker and Reverend James Henry officiating. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
