Marylouise Black, of Hendersonville, passed away at home Thursday, August 26, 2021 at the age of 95 surrounded by her loving family and friends.

She was born Marylouise Breedlove on November 29, 1925 in Princeton, West Virginia to the late Hugh Lloyd and Eva Gladys Breedlove. She was the wife of the late John E. Black. They were married for 66 years.

Survivors are daughter, Nena Louise (Cookie) Black Zeman and her husband, Daniel R. Zeman and their three married children, Stephanie (and her husband, James) Zanvettor, Jeremy (and his wife, Lauryn) Zeman, and Jonathan (and his wife, Laura) Zeman. There are four great grandchildren, Zoe and Avery Zanvettor, Kai Zeman (son of Jeremy and Lauryn), and Reese Zeman (daughter of Jonathan and Laura). Two brothers, Hugh Breedlove, Jr. of Charleston, West Virginia, and James Breedlove of Collegedale, Tennessee.

Marylou and John E. Black moved to Fletcher, NC in 1949 with their daughter, Cookie. Marylou had many interests and occupations. After moving to Fletcher, she taught business classes at Fletcher Academy. She was also the executive secretary to the president of Stencil Aero Engineering and was the office manager for Dr. Jack Powell’s surgery practice in Asheville.

In addition to her business interests, she collected many books on people, history, and health. She loved to travel and went to many European countries, including Russia and Egypt. She was passionate about genealogy and ancestry research and was a member of Colonial Dames and Daughters of the American Revolution.

She was a member of the Fletcher Seventh-Day Adventist church for over 70 years.

Marylou loved her family and her friends. She will be remembered for her many talents and independent spirit. She always greeted everyone with her infectious smile and was always happy to help others. Her favorite phrase was “how bout that!” She was loved by many and will be missed by all who knew her.

Graveside services will be held 11:00 AM Friday, September 3rd at the Shepard Memorial Park in Hendersonville, NC. Pastor Ivan Blake will officiate. A memorial service will be held at Fletcher Park Inn at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations may be made in honor of Marylouise Black to Four Seasons Hospice 571 S Allen Rd, Flat Rock, NC 28731.
