John Burgeon (JB) Gilbert passed away peacefully at his home in Edneyville on Saturday, September 12th, 2026.
He was born on February 23, 1941 in Hendersonville and was a lifelong resident of Henderson County.
JB attended Edneyville High School and graduated from the School of Hard Knocks. He was a grading contractor by trade and worked at it for 60+ years then came out of retirement and got back on his dozer at the age of 83 to help his neighbors after Hurricane Helene.
JB loved his family and friends fiercely and he enjoyed his John Deere tractors, bluegrass music, John Wayne, picnics on ‘ Little Pizgy’ and shooting the breeze at the Edneyville General store.
He was preceded in death by his son Brian, his parents Burgeon and Mary Dalton Gilbert, his siblings Ervin, Edward and Sam Gilbert, Elizabeth Garrett, and Betty Cole.
He is survived by his daughter Lamonda and her husband Joel McCraw, beloved grandson McKenley and his wife Katie and sister Grace Albritton.
Services will be held Monday, September 21st, 2026 at Mt Moriah Baptist Church. Family will receive friends @ 12:30 with funeral to follow at 2PM. I
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Four Seasons Hospice in honor of JB.
