Sylvia Jean Hayden Brown, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away on September 16, 2026, after a courageous battle with illnesses. Born on February 22, 1946, in High Point, North Carolina, Sylvia was the cherished daughter of Vernon Grafton Hayden and Nellie Marie (Tuttle) Hayden.

Sylvia’s life was a testament to love, kindness, and resilience. She was the devoted wife of David Coy Brown, with whom she shared 61 beautiful years of marriage, beginning on August 4, 1965. Together, they created a family filled with warmth and affection, raising their son Tony Brown (Kathy), and blessed with two grandchildren, Austin and Emily Brown, and two honorary grandchildren Dakota and Kayla Moniz. Her family continued to grow with the birth of her two cherished great-grandsons, Waylon and Creed Inman.
Sylvia’s heart was as big as the world, and her kindness knew no bounds. She was a dietary aide at The Laurels of Hendersonville, always eager to lend a helping hand and care for others. Sylvia’s heart of gold shone brightly in every aspect of her life, whether she was spending time with her family, reading her favorite books, doing word searches and crossword puzzles or simply offering her generous spirit to those in need.
Her kindness and generosity touched countless lives, leaving an indelible mark on everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Sylvia was predeceased by her brother Kenneth Hayden, brother-in-law Alan Duncan, and her sisters, Phyllis Duncan, Kathy Parris, and Peggy Husscussin. She is survived by her loving brother Roger Hayden (Carolyn), brothers-in-law Gordon Parris and Raymond Husscussin, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, a great-nieces, and great-nephews.
A celebration of Sylvia’s life will be held on September 19, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church located at 14 Chastain Hill Road, Horse Shoe, NC 28759. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Jerry Lively, their neighbor, pastor, and friend, for his unwavering support and friendship.
As we remember Sylvia, we hold her close in our hearts with the words: “Your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure. You are loved beyond words and missed beyond measure.”
