Barbara McCleery Copenhaver, 85, passed away peacefully at her home, in Hendersonville, NC, on September 17, 2025.
Barbara was born in Denver, Colorado on November 03, 1939 to the late Merle and Lorna Mulder McCleery.
In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her sister and brother-in-law Anne and Lynn Klocksiem; nephews Steven Klocksiem and SPC James Buis.
Barbara graduated from South High School and received her bachelor’s of science degree in nursing from University of Colorado in 1961.
Barbara worked as a registered nurse in many capacities in Colorado, Indiana, Georgia and Kentucky. She quit working when her daughter Kelly was born and returned to the work force later in life.
Barbara was a member of First United Methodist Church of Hendersonville. Barbara loved music and played the piano and organ. She sang in the church choir and/or community chorus wherever she lived at the time. Barbara also did a lot of volunteer and charity work.
Surviving Barbara are her husband of 62 years, Julian Copenhaver, her daughter Kelly Copenhaver, a sister-in-law, Matilda Buis and a few nieces and nephews.
Barbara’s remains will be interred at a later date in Denver, Colorado.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts can be given to; Four Seasons Hospice Foundation at 211 N Main Street, Hendersonville, NC 28792, The American Cancer Society, or the Humane Society of your choice.
