Edmund Lee “Ned” Wright, 74, of Flat Rock, North Carolina passed away peacefully with his loving wife, Nung at his side, 11:22 pm Friday, September 20, 2024 at the Elizabeth House.
Ned was born in Lexington, Virginia to Rev. David Cady Wright Jr. and Mildred Cochran Wright. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, David Cady Wright III, Reverend Lynn Cochran Wright, William McDowell “Billy” Wright.
He grew up in Birmingham, Alabama. His father was Rector of St. Mary’s on the Highlands in Birmingham and was an active supporter of the civil rights movement. He also was a summertime rector at St. John in The Wilderness Church in Flat Rock, NC where Ned spent many summers with extended family. He graduated from Livingston University, now the University of West Alabama in Livingston.
Ned owned and operated Wright Design in Flat Rock, North Carolina. He designed many new homes and remodels. He excelled at solving challenging design issues in a creative manner.
Ned was very passionate about life, loved the outdoors, canoeing, hiking, taking pictures, and was a very gifted woodworker. He loved his farm in West Virginia and spending time there with his daughter Elli. He also loved visiting Thailand where he met his wife Nung and her family. He was passionate about sharing her culture with his friends and family.
He is survived by his loving wife of eleven years, Nung Wright; his son, Noah Lynn Wright of Princeton, West Virginia, sisters-in-law Sally Wright and Barbara Wright of Birmingham, Alabama, Ann Wright of Alpine, Wyoming, and a grandchild, many cousins, nephews and nieces in the United States and Thailand.
A celebration of Ned’s life will be held graveside at St. John In the Wilderness Historic Graveyard at 1:00 PM Saturday, November 23, 2024.
Donations may be made in Ned’s name to the Four Seasons Hospice Elizabeth House.
