Stephen “Rocky” Byne Rhode, 74, of Hendersonville, passed away Sunday September 24, 2023 at his residence.
Stephen was born in Wilmington, DE in 1949 to Elizabeth W. Reardan and Judson C. Rhode. He graduated high school in 1966 and joined the US Army Reserves during the draft build up to the Vietnam War. He graduated from North Carolina State University with a BS in Electrical Engineering, and from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with an MBA. He worked as a real estate entrepreneur for most of his career. He loved the Hendersonville area and lived there longer than any other area of his life. His hobbies included rock climbing, camping, and bicycling. He was an environmentalist and always advocated for recycling.
He is survived by his family, Serena F. Rhode, Nora Ardila, John Rhode, Mary Rhode, David Rhode, Gladys Reed, many cousins, nieces, nephews and his loving cat, Mittens.
A memorial service will be held, Saturday October 14, 2023 at eleven o’clock in the morning at the Chapel in the Pines of Jackson Funeral Service.
