After a long battle with dementia, Marillyn Buchanan Burghardt went to her next journey with our Lord on October 1, 2025, a day shy of her 82nd birthday.
Marillyn (yes, with two ll’s), was a wonderful mother who was kind, hard-working, dedicated and a very creative soul. She leaves behind her three children, a daughter, Annette, her precious twins Robert and James and her granddaughters, Kattaleia and Zinnia. Additionally, she also leaves behind her feline guardian angels, Mandy and Tabitha. Her husband, Gordon of 53 years, predeceased her 9 years ago.
She graduated from Manatee High School in Bradenton, Florida. She traveled all over the country with her husband when he worked for Raytheon.
Our mother was a stay-at-home mom from the beginning of our lives. With our family’s electrical contracting business, Marillyn not only did the bookkeeping, she often worked beside her husband and was never shy about the hard work. Despite the business, she was very active in all her children’s activities. This included activities such as Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, sports and other various organizations. She was a former Worthy Matron in the Order of the Eastern Star.
After moving to North Carolina in 1983, she went to college and enjoyed working in the medical field as a CNA and then a Unit Clerk for Pardee Hospital. During this period, she found her passion for quilting. She was involved in local quilt guilds and enjoyed making quilts for Project Linus, which became her passion. Marillyn also entered her quilts at various fairs, oftentimes winning awards. Our Mom was amazingly talented and she dedicated her life to supporting her family and her community. She never placed herself first, always supporting others in their endeavors.
A private memorial service for family will be held at the First United Methodist Church of Hendersonville. If you would like to honor Marillyn, please send donations to Project Linus.
The family would like to express their thanks to the team of Hospice of the Carolina Foothills and Care-4-U Home in assisting us in honoring our Mother’s wish to stay at home.
Jackson Funeral Service is honored to serve the Burghardt family
