Jerry Lynn Poarch, 82, of Hendersonville, died on Monday, October 11, 2021. Jerry was born on July, 19, 1939 in Caldwell County and was the second son of four boys born to the late Ralph O Poarch and Hazel Cannon Poarch. Jerry attended Valdese High School and Appalachian State University. He served in the Army National Guard. Jerry was in the banking business for over 45 years retiring in 2007 from a 36 year career with First Citizens Bank. He moved to Hendersonville in 1972 to help start the first First Citizens Bank here in town. Jerry was a member of the American Legion, a member of the Hendersonville Elk’s Lodge #1616, and a former Jaycee. Mr. Poarch was a faithful follower of Christ and a member of First Baptist Church of Hendersonville, NC, where he sang in the choir and in the Singing Saints choir. Jerry took “make a joyful noise unto the Lord” very seriously. He loved nothing more than singing loudly and deeply to a great hymn. Jerry loved his church and his church family. Jerry also loved reading, a game of cards, his card playing friends, and his breakfast buddies. Most importantly, Jerry loved his family. He spent many hours telling stories, performing tricks and laughing with family and friends. Many condolences to the family have stated “The Amazing Jerome was a fun guy”! Jerry was preceded in death by his brothers, Toby Poarch and Bobby Poarch. Survivors include his wife, Glenda H Poarch of the home; his children, Gina Kilpatrick (Jeff) of Hendersonville, Leslie Poarch of Arden, Victor Burleson (Ginny) of Hendersonville and Toni Graham (Andy) of Tega Cay, SC; his brother, James Poarch (Ann) of Valdese, NC; his grandchildren, Tristen Bouler, Ava Kilpatrick, Taylor Burleson, Stella Graham and Scarlett Graham; a sister-in-law, Denyse Poarch of Valdese, NC; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends. The family would like to thank Dr. Eric Yeung and Dr. Eric Byrd of Hendersonville and Pardee Hospital. Funeral Services will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, October 17, 2021 at First Baptist Church Hendersonville. Officiating will be Pastor Steve Scoggins and Pastor Wally Shamburger. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2:00-2:45 at the church before the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
