Gordon Leo Hoots, age 74 returned to his heavenly home on October 20, 2023 after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God supported him in his struggle and ultimately gave him peace.
Gordon was born on April 21, 1949 in Hendersonville, NC, the first of four children to the late Willie and Ethel Hoots.
He was a humble, godly man with great wisdom and a deep faith in God. His life was dedicated to his Christian faith and sharing the gospel. Gordon was kind and soft-spoken, and always had time to answer a question or solve a problem, no matter how small.
He was a graduate of East Henderson High then went on to further his education. Gordon received a bachelor’s degree in history from Warren Wilson College and then earned a Masters of Divinity from Nazarene Theological Seminary in Kansas City, MS. He was a pastor in KY during his earlier years.In his free time, he was passionate about sharing gospel music and was a radio host on WGMA 1520AM. He was a substitute teacher for years and gave some time as a sports announcer. Gordon was an avid sports fan who kept up with Clemson football and UNC basketball, but could easily join in a conversation about any team during the season.
He was a good man who loved his family and was devoted to his children. Now in heaven, he is smiling and has no limitations, no pain, and no sorrow. We will love him always and still live to make him proud.He is survived by his children Greg Hoots and Shaun Hoots. His sisters, Sandra Henderson (Roger), Sheila Gillespie (Sid) and Sylvia Cantrell (Dean). Aunts, Lessie Coggins, Maxine Banks, Eunice Lynch, Kay Kluge (Jimmy), Marty Lee (Mike) and Uncle George Jackson (Dodie). Several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Memorial activities will be held at Upward Bible Baptist church in Hendersonville, NC on Thursday, October 26, 2023. Visitation will start at 1pm and a funeral service will begin at 2pm. Burial will follow the service at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
