Charles Thomas Day, Jr., 89, of Hendersonville, N.C., passed away on November 1, 2024.
He was the son of the late Charles Thomas Day, Sr. and Rosalie Powell Day of Asheville.
After graduating high school, Charles attended East Carolina University and became a loyal fan of the ECU Pirates.
After college, he worked as a partner in the family owned business of Day’s Tobacco and Storage Warehouses in Asheville. He proudly helped to found the First Commercial Bank of Asheville and later served as chairman of its board. Charles was an avid golfer, loved to “cut a rug” on the dance floor and was a savvy investor and family man. He never met a stranger, had many friends and always welcomed new ones in his life.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Judith Hale Day, of Hendersonville; son Charles Thomas Day III (Chuck) and wife Renee of Social Circle GA, daughter Carol Day McKown of Eatonton , GA and daughter Mary Day Bullerdick and husband Michael of Cumming, GA and brother, Alton Day, and wife, Linda Day of Asheville. He was blessed with 6 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren whom he loved dearly and many beloved nieces and nephews.
He had two late sisters, Polly Day Judy, and late husband Oren, Joyce Day Sundling and late husband Sy.
A memorial service will be held at The Chapel in the Pines of Jackson Funeral Service in Hendersonville on November 12, 2024. The family will receive friends at 11:00 AM with a service immediately following the visitation. A graveside service will be held at Ashelawn Gardens of Memory in Asheville.
In Lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the nonprofit, RAISE Global Partners, 178 Long Leaf Lane, Eatonton, GA 31024 for the benefit of aiding those affected by Hurricane Helene in Asheville and surrounding areas of Western N.C.
