Ruth Marie Orr Blackwell, born February 23, 1936, went home to be with the Lord on November 12, 2022. Wife of Reverend Dan Blackwell for 68 years, she was proceeded in death by her parents Tom and Milda Guice Orr, daughter Kay, grandson Jamie, her sisters Phyllis Rogers, Christine Lyda, Ann Huff, and brother Harold “Bud” Orr.
Marie was mother to 5 children who she loved dearly, Danny, Kay, David, Tommy, and Stevie; grandmother and great grandmother to over 20 grandchildren.
She was a lifelong faithful Christian and active member of Dana Baptist Church. A pastors wife for 63 years, she was a Sunday school teacher, WMU director, pianist for many years and founding member of the Singing Blackwell’s. She also taught 62 vacation bible schools throughout the years. She was an excellent mother and granny. She loved and was loved by all of her church families.
After getting married at age 18, she moved with Dan to Hawaii on army assignment. They then moved to Hendersonville where they spent their life with their children and grandchildren.
Marie was an avid mall walker, sudoku player, road tripper – visiting 49 states, and loved her trips to Charleston.
She will be missed by so many, but we know she is in the presence of her Savior Jesus Christ and those gone before her.
Marie is survived by her husband Rev. Dan Blackwell, her sons Danny (Michelle), David (Rhonda), Tommy (Stephanie) and Stevie (Shayna); Sisters Ethel Pittillo (Jack)and twin sister Mary Lamb.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 17th from 5:30 until 7 pm at Jackson Funeral Service.
Funeral services will be held at Ebenezer Baptist Church in Hendersonville with the Reverend Steve Scoggins officiating on Friday, November 18th, at 11am. Burial will follow at Locust Grove Baptist Church.
