Karen Stepp Carswell, born on December 4, 1948, in Henderson County, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on November 12, 2025. She was the beloved daughter of Clyde Stepp and Virginia Nix, who preceded her in death.
Karen was a devoted mother to her son, Darren Hemphill, and was preceded in death by her other son, Jason Hemphill; and her brother, Don Kermit Stepp. She is survived by her husband, Tony E. Carswell, and her cherished family, including Jason’s wife, Christine, and their children: Zachary, Hannah, George, Xavier, and Isabella. She is also survived by Darren’s wife, Margaret, and their children, Zane and Haley. Her unwavering love for her family was a central part of her life, and she cherished every moment spent with them.
A woman of deep faith, Karen loved Jesus and lived her life in accordance with her beliefs. She loved reading her Bible and listening to gospel and contemporary worship music. Her faith was a guiding light, not only for her but also for those around her, as she shared her spiritual journey with warmth and compassion. She was known for her kindness, generosity, and the ability to uplift others with her encouraging words.
Karen’s legacy of love and faith will continue to inspire all who knew her.
A memorial service celebrating Karen’s life will be held on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at First Baptist Church in Hendersonville, North Carolina. Visitation starts at 10:00 a.m. and the funeral will follow at 11:00 a.m. The family invites all who knew her to join in remembering the remarkable life she led. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church Lift Building Fund in her honor.
Rest in peace, Karen. Your legacy of love and faith will continue to shine brightly in the lives of your family and friends.
