On November 13, 2025, John Schnyder, 85 died peacefully after a very short illness at Margaret R. Pardee Hospital.
He is preceded in death by his parents Siegfried and Carolina Schnyder and his brother Frank Schnyder.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Pat Schnyder; his daughter Joan; son Michael; granddaughter Molly all of which are Schnyder’s; as well as precious pup Sally.
John, a Hendersonville Native, was raised in the Dana Community on Edelweiss Farm and Boarding House where his family grew apples and everything else to serve Boarders from the hotter flatland seeking the peace, charm, and amazing food year after year.
He was a 1958 graduate of Dana High School. John then served in the US Air Force as part of the Strategic Air Command (SAC).
After his time in the Air Force, followed by time spent at Western Carolina University, he came back to Hendersonville and began his career with Southern Bell. He worked for “The Bell System” for 39 years retiring from Lucent Technologies in 2000. At that time, he became a professional retired person at which he excelled for 25 years.
John was very involved member of the BPOE Elks Lodge 1616 for 50 years. He moved through all of the Chairs at the Elks including that of Exalted Ruler. He also served on the Board of Trustees for 5 years.
As a native who lived in Hendersonville most of his life, he enjoyed friendships that lasted for decades. He loved watching their children grow up and got a kick out of their antics, as well as hearing about their grandchildren and for a few great grandchildren. Until the last few days of his life, he and Pat had an active social life going out to eat and spending hours and hours visiting on the porch. They never let anything get in the way when friends dropped by and would always sit down and visit with them.
A Service to Celebrate John’s life is scheduled for: Thursday, December 4, 2025 at 2:00 pm at St James Episcopal Church in Hendersonville. Please join his family in a tribute to a great Dad.
