Edgar Dwight Osteen, of Hendersonville, passed away Wednesday November 17, 2021 at Pardee Hospital.
Born in 1944 in Brevard, NC, he was the son of the late Edgar Roosevelt and Eva Beatrice Corn Osteen.
He was a longtime employee of Pardee Hospital, serving in several positions. He was small in stature but had a big heart. Dwight was a great provider, who sacrificed everything for his family. He deeply loved old movies and his pets.
Several funny family stories include: Putting his foot through the ceiling twice while looking for Christmas lights. Having a heavy picture of the Last Supper fall off the wall hitting him in the head resulting in stiches. Avoiding disaster while teaching his children to drive, and dressing up as Norman Bate’s mother on Halloween. He would always wait up when we went to the “Spook House”. We would get home late and he would have the light on and the door locked and we would have to use the spare key to get in. He would be in his chair, watching a movie and always asked.. Did you have fun at the Spook House? We loved October and Halloween with him. Lastly, he would always put his granddaughter’s diaper on backwards. We still don’t know how he did this.
He leaves behind his wife of 50 years, Margaret Pardee Rhodes Osteen, two children, Christopher Dwight Osteen and Tammy Osteen Summey and three grandchildren, Kyle Seelig, Joshua Summey and Addie Summey.
Losing both his parents in his early twenties, he is happy to be seeing Jesus and them again. The family will miss him but are glad his suffering is over and know he went peacefully in the end.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
