David Roger Wilson, 80, of Flat Rock, NC, has crossed the finish line. He passed away at home late Sunday evening surrounded by his beloved family.

David was born on Valentine’s Day of 1943, in Morristown, New Jersey, to Augustus “Gus” and Winifred “Winnie” Wilson (nee Dallenger). He was a graduate of Madison High School in Madison, New Jersey. Upon graduating high school, he served in the Navy as a Seabee.  After training at Great Lakes Naval Station, he served in Spain and New Zealand, with a final tour in Antarctica. He had a long career in sales and service in the automotive and technology industry. His passion for sales and automotives led him to a long-standing career with Auto Zone.

David was married to the love of his life, Linda (nee Lovenberg), whom he married in 1975. Together, David and Linda raised four children, in both Somerset, NJ and Flat Rock, NC.

David was a charismatic and charming man with sharp blues eyes, and a smile that made him memorable to all who met him both personally and professionally. He was a fan of all automotive things; from racing (especially at Flemington Speedway) to hot rods, to repairs. His passion for automotives extended to an interest in electronic devices such as car phones in the 1980s and building computers. He enjoyed spending time with his family and had many memorable trips to the Poconos with his wife and children. He enjoyed gardening and lawncare and being outside. In retirement, he enjoyed long relaxing days on his front porch with his family and friends. He truly enjoyed the time he spent with his grandchildren and being able to watch them grow.  In solitude he spent time achieving ever-higher levels of Candy Crush, listening to his favorite music, and watching anything History on Netflix.

Over the course of his life, David loved the companionship of his dogs, the last of which was his sweet girl Maggie, who gave him great joy until his dying day.

David is preceded in death by his father, Augustus Wilson; his mother, Winifred Wilson Smith; and his beloved daughter, Christine Wilson White.

David is survived by his wife of 48 years, Linda Wilson (nee Lovenberg); his children, David John Wilson (Laura), Erin (William) Troy, Brian (Samantha) Wilson, Brianna Harris, Patrick Wilson, his devoted ex-son-in-law, James Harris; his sister Dale (Paul) Smith; his beloved grandchildren, Bryan Fox, Michael White, Sarah White, Kaleb McCall-Harris, Sean Wilson, Julianna Troy, William Troy, Avery Harris, Derek Veruete, Austin Troy, Colton Wilson, Amelia Wilson; and his great grandchildren, Nicole Fox and Alyson Fox.

The memories of David will live on in the hearts and prayers of his family and friends.  May he rest in peace.
