Donald Cable passed away peacefully at Elizabeth House on Wednesday at the age of 87. He was preceded in death by his parents, Philip and Maggie V. Cable and his six brothers and sisters. He is survived by his wife, Martha Pittillo Cable and his sons, Don Carlos Cable and Ray Tony Cable and his friend Tim Ballard. He is lovingly remembered by his granddaughters, Logan Cable and Lindsey Cable as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Don was born in 1934 in Cable Cove [Fontana] Graham County. He graduated from Dana High School in 1952 and promptly enlisted in The U.S. Air Force as a meteorologist and served until his retirement in 1973 after which he worked for NOAA as a climatologist in Asheville. Don also owned Cable’s Bait & Tackle as well as 64 Grocery Bait & Tackle for several years, as well as worked for Bryan Easler Ford and enjoyed farming. Don was an avid saltwater fisherman and loved his dogs and cats. He would travel frequently to Costa Rica and Mexico to fish and on mission trips for the church. Don was a member of East Flat Rock First Baptist Church. Always welcoming people into his home, he will be missed by many. No services will be held as per his wishes.
