Gloria Frances “Fran” Elaine Shehan Lyda, 77, was lifted into the loving arms of her Lord on Sunday, December 7, 2025, at Elizabeth House, following a long period of declining health. She left this world peacefully, surrounded by the love and faith that carried her throughout her life.

Born on December 3, 1948, in York, South Carolina, Fran was the cherished daughter of Robert E. “Bob” Shehan and Frances Elizabeth “Lib” Shehan. From a young age, she showed a strength of spirit and a steady kindness that would become her hallmark.

A 1966 graduate of Edneyville High School, Fran was a woman of remarkable determination and strong character. Throughout the years, she worked multiple jobs—including machining and welding—while raising her daughter and caring faithfully for her parents. She returned to school three different times, each time driven by her desire to better her life and provide for those she loved. Her perseverance was quiet but powerful and will have a lasting impact on her family.

She later devoted many years to caring for others as a CNA with VHP (Care Partners) in Hendersonville. Caring for people was one of her greatest passions, and she brought comfort, laughter, and light to those around her. She retired at the age of 51 following a stroke.

In retirement, Fran treasured time with her daughter and grandchildren. She loved working on creative projects like ceramics, stained glass, crocheting, and handmade Christmas ornaments, cooking and baking and especially enjoyed sharing these activities with her grandchildren. She enjoyed bird watching, reminiscing with friends and family, listening to music, and relaxing with her favorite home improvement shows, Hallmark movies, and Christmas films.

Her faith was the foundation of her life. A devoted member of Balfour Baptist Church, Fran deeply loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She leaves behind a lasting legacy of kindness and steadfast faith through sharing the love of Christ.

Fran was preceded in death by her parents, Bob and Lib Shehan, and by her brothers Larry, David, Jerry, and Floyd, along with other dear relatives.

She is survived by her daughter, Diane “Michelle” Murdock; her brothers, Ronald “Ronnie” C. Shehan and Bobby C.Pappy” Shehan; her grandchildren, Aidan Murdock and Ethan Murdock and his wife, Destiny; and her six great-grandchildren—McKenzie, Evelynne, Juliette, Nami, Cameron, and Westin—and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Balfour Baptist Church Mission Fund.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Balfour Baptist Church on Saturday, December 27, 2025, at 2 p.m. The family will receive friends beginning at 1:30 p.m. in the church.

Condolences may be sent to Fran’s family through the funeral home website or by mail to Jackson Funeral Service, 1101 Greenville Highway, Hendersonville, NC 28792. Please include the name of the deceased with your condolence.
