Effie Blackwell Guice, 90, of Saluda, NC passed away Monday, December 27, 2021 peacefully at her home.
She was born in Henderson County and had lived in Polk County for the past 53 years.
She was the daughter of the late Hugh Vernon Blackwell Sr. and Mary Margaret Henderson Blackwell and was also preceded in death by her husband, William Horace Guice Sr., a daughter, Doris Ann Guice, four brother, Hugh Vernon “Bud” Blackwell, Johnny Blackwell, Jimmy Blackwell, Harry Dean Blackwell and a sister, Amelia Ward.
She was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church.
She retired from Saluda Public School as a bus driver and teacher’s assistant after 29 years of service.
Effie loved spending time with her family, going to the beach, playing softball, crafting, singing and playing piano.
She is survived by a daughter, Fay Collins and her husband Wade of Flat Rock, two sons, William Horace Guice Jr. of Saluda and Jerry Dean Guice of Saluda; three sisters, Aurelia Ward, Dorothy Belcher and Dooder Sexton; four grandchildren, Susan Pratt, Amy Orr, Julie Guice, Kerry Jolley; nine great grandchildren, Matthew Johnson, Nathan Johnson, Luke Johnson, Ellis Orr, Horace Orr, Adelyn Jolley, Jeremiah Jolley, Elijah Jolley and Penelope Jolley and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 12:30 PM to 1:00 PM Thursday, December 30th at Macedonia Baptist Church Cemetery with a graveside service following.
